FPBO is a dark brown liquid which blooks like an oil. It is produced by fast pyrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass (residues from forestry, agriculture and related industries). Today FPBO is produced at commercial scale, for example at Empyro in The Netherlands, in a volume of 25,000 metric tons per year.
